I guess everyone loves small programming puzzles. That's fine. I find
them fun myself. But for those of you who are actually motivated by
helping OP rather than just your own amusement, please stop what
you're doing for a moment and notice that anything you thought might
be "the specs" are under review. By OP:

Going to have to rethink that one.
May have to separate with a '/' when I create the text field for printing.
Please see the mini-exchange between Alan Shore and Michael Lange. The
original "specs" were not only unclear, but simply not well thought
out from a practical, actually-for-business-use perspective.
Honestly, for what OP is trying to do *for work*, this should not be a
novel problem, where people scurry off and find their own specialized
solutions. There are values. Some may be empty. There need to be
delimiters. This has been solved literally thousands of times, if not
millions.
OK, now that you're aware that what you're working on isn't what OP
*needs* (even if it is what they *said* they wanted, at some point in
the past, before acknowledging that it wasn't a good idea), you should
feel free to continue having fun doing what you're doing.
