WAY too much work. I'll just call a "wrapper" RPG program (or rewrite the CLLE as RPG) and be done with it.

I definitely agree with you there. Whenever you are dealing with
"RPG-specific" parameter types, it's simplest to just call it with
RPG. So much so that some folks have gotten in the habit of using RPG
for everything (it's easier to make RPG do CL-ish things than to make
CL do RPG-ish things).

So much for an "Integrated Language Environment" - IMHO they forgot CL.

Here I disagree. The VARCHAR type isn't native to C/C++ either; and to
my knowledge, IBM did not endow ILE C/C++ with any special provision
for handling this type. I believe you have to manually manage the
first two bytes there too.

I think CL is actually impressively well integrated, for what is
ostensibly a "scripting language". (In my view, CL is something weird
which isn't quite a scripting language, but isn't quite NOT a
scripting language either.)
