Hey, at least your shop built applications "on top of" the ERP.

Where I work, we got the source code for the ERP way back when, and
soon the ERP itself was a custom application. There is no way we could
ever upgrade to a new version of the ERP from the vendor.

1995 or so here. (i've been here since 2015)

Yes, umpteen changes implemented with no Overseer/Business
Analyst/Steering Committee to say yay or nay to anything.

A dozen or more developers have come and gone and half again as many IT
Managers,
very few with an eye toward the overall health of the ERP.

What they really need is an Empowered ERP Cop or a BA with Teeth here.

That and a good CMS package. (got shot down again on that ;-)
