No, Java6 will not run on V7R3. If you upgrade to V7R3 and that Java is on the system, the upgrade will remove it.

Subject: Re: V7R3 POI/HSSF Java Issue After Upgrade from V7R2
Does v7r3 not run java 6? If it dies, why not continue with java6?

After upgrading to V7R3 from V7R2 we have a function that is failing
as
part of the POI/HSSF software.
The only change that has been made between the two releases related
to the code is the set environment was changed to use Java 8 vs Java
6. When debugging the program, the evaluate method seems to work for
some formulas, but not all. Have tested against spreadsheets that
were imported prior to the upgrade and have the same issue so doesn't
seem to be specific to the spreadsheet. Any ideas where to look?
Try to download the original source-code project for the Apache POI
version you are using and rebuild it in the IBM i with its Java SE
version 8 of the JVM. Then try again your failing programs.
