In several web fora have I seen this topic posted, most of them do have an
explanation for some other issues which have been valuable, but I still
can't have the once-for-all answer.

The once and for all answer has never changed.
The parameter count, type, and length must match between caller and callee.

If I see memory corruption / garbage / variables overlaying one
another, the very first place I look is the parameter type and size.
They must match exactly between the two programs. Often, when I can't
find the issue, I'll try to write the smallest programs that will
exhibit it, and in the process of simplifying the problem space, I'll
find the original error.
