Not only are you going to add views, you are putting any DR recovery in a
situation where lots more steps may be needed, not to mention significantly
extending the restore/backup time...... Don't even start with security
issues.
Brian is right, SQL solves your issue quickly, easily, and eliminates all
the other mucking around needed to support this.
There is a bright side however; There is no chance this application is ever
leaving IBM i since no other database will support it easily, even with
partitioned tables.

Subject: RE: SQL VIEWS over multi-member files
I'm not sure what EDW is, but I still don't see what different members
accomplish that a simple key wouldn't. If you need to compare data from
different days, you select the days to compare using a date key field and
you accomplish the same thing.
But that is a different conversation. If you stay with the multi-member
approach, I'm not aware of a way to avoid new views each day.

Brian,
The multi-member file is necessary so that comparisons can be made to
determine changes to the data for the EDW. Cannot do away with the members.
And yes, this happens every day.
Thanks,
Marvin

Wow, you are really adding a new member every day? I think you may have to
create the view each day as well.
If I were you, I would go ahead and bite the bullet and do away with the
multi-member file. If the format of each member is the same, why not just
one member with a key field to separate the days?

Subject: SQL VIEWS over multi-member files
I am trying to create SQL views over multi-member files. I need to change
the view to point to a specific member that was created that day. How would
I do this? Do I have to recreate the view every day? How do I point to the
specific member in the CREATE VIEW statement? I have tried to remove the
member but the system doesn't allow that. The system limits a view to one
member because it is a view and not a logical file. I see no way to change
the view with an SQL statement. Anyone ever successfully tried this?
Thanks,
Marvin
