Just off the top of my head:

Could it be possible that a logical over that file has unique keys? We've run into that before....

Subject: EXCPT output RPG

Just want to verify something...
In an RPG program we have exception output (an update, not ADD), to a record format that specifies the fields to be updated.
Only the fields listed in the exception output can be updated. Correct?

I am trying to track down why we are getting a duplicate key error on this exception output when the exception output does an update to an existing record and the key fields of that record are not listed in the exception output.

My perception is that I am going down a rabbit hole barking up the wrong tree while chasing a wild goose, but I have to start somewhere.

Happy Friday!

Paul
