When I wrote my first free format program, I was asked "Why'd you do THAT?". Also got criticized for comments beyond column 80, since guys using 24x80 screen size couldn't see them w/o F19/F20. Good times. ** eye roll **

Bummer.  I was once called on the carpet for having the audacity to write a program using free format.  But that was in 2000, and in a shop with one other developer who had 17 years of tenure and who refused to join the 21st century.  I would have thought that was a thing of the past by now, but, sadly, apparently not.
