Although time will tell whether this or using the INFDS will be the easiest to figure out in the future. INFDS wins out for elegance.

I read into a generic DS. I check the record ID variable in the generic DS, and then load it into the appropriate DS.

What is best practice to eliminate I Specs and Record ID Indicators on a READ.

I have a logical file that has 10 formats. What is the best way to READ that file and determine what format I have on each READ?

Apologies ahead of time if this is so simple, yet I couldn't see it.
