He needs the cursor to read the BLOB columns, so I'd think he might as well use the cursor for the update.

RPG does not likes blobs, you can create a view without the blob to chain or read sequentially,  you can update the record,  but to send the blob you need SQL

You might as well stick with RPG rather than use SQL for RLA...
