I have to update a file field whose name will be known at run time
can we use " For update of :field" clause if yes please let me know
how to do that.

A colon is not allowed in the unprepared SQL statement. Parameter
placeholders (?) are all that are allowed for dynamically supplying values
to an SQL statement. Notice I said "supplying values". This means
placeholders cannot be used to supply the names of tables, views, columns,
etc. So, in your case, if the clause cannot be specified at prepare,
execute, or open time, then it needs to be supplied as a character string
only (meaning: use RPG concatenation) when the unprepared SQL statement is
being built.

Sincerely,

Dave Clark
