You probably didn't find many results about barcode readers because they're just another form of keyboard input.

I agree that viewing a 100+ input field isn't the best, but I personally wouldn't want to have a non-display field. You'd never know if it was mis-reading the barcode, or not reading at all.

I don't know of any way to input data using 5250 without having the field on the display.

First, has anyone a suggestion for a good tutorial, site, or examples of using bar code readers with RPG?  My search brought dismal results.

My immediate problem is with a 100+ character bar code.  I can do the task with a DSPF  and a 100+ character input field.  I never want the user to see the bar code so I am using DSPATR(ND) so everything works OK.

But it really seems a waste of screen space.  So I believe my question
is:  How can I scan a bar code field with a bar code reader and capture that information without a defined 100+ character DSPF screen field?
