We have an SQLRPGLLE program that queries a database on a remote
machine, thus placing an SQLPKG on the remote machine.

The program executes a number of SQL queries over the RDB.

The following SQL in particular started returning erroneous data:

exec sql

SELECT SUM(STRING_AMOUNT)

into :postage$

FROM REMOTESYS/RMTLIB/mrzpstv01

WHERE MAILING_NO IN (:nMail1, :nMail2, :nMail3);

It turns out the remote view (mrzpstv01), was changed and a new column
was inserted. So instead of returning the sum of 'STRING_AMOUNT' (BTW
this is the real column name), it started returning a sum of the column
prior to it in the view layout. The new column that was insert into the
view was inserted prior to both of the columns in question.

We were surprised by this result.

I am curious - can we have remote queries in our SQLRPGLE programs that
will automatically adjust when the underlying views or tables are
changed?

Or do we need to recompile and recreate the SQLPKG each time?

Both machines are on IBM I V7R2.

Thanks in advance
