Hi Vern,

RPG has a (non)feature where it assumes that all alphanumeric data is in the mixed-byte CCSID (DBCS + SBCS) related to the job CCSID. For job CCSID 37, RPG would be assuming your alphanumeric data has CCSID 937.

To get RPG to assume that alphanumeric data defaults to the actual job CCSID, code CCSID(*CHAR:*JOBRUN) in the H spec.

If you had that CCSID(*CHAR) keyword to your H spec, RPG will put x'3f' in your character field, rather than the DBCS value.
