This sounds like a firewall / accesslist issue. JDBC connects to port 1433
of the SQL server.

I'm hoping someone can help.

We're attempting to access an SQL Server database on an outside company's
server.

For initial testing I was (and am still able) connecting to and executing
SQL statements on one of our company's servers. But when I try to connect
to outside company's server the connection fails.

In debug I was able to step until

conn = CallConnectMethod(JNIENV_P: drv: mid: str: prop); // In
procedure Driver_ConnProp

drv, mid, str and prop all have values but when this statement executes it
returns 0.

I have been able to successfully ping the outside company's server.

I have been able to TELNET to the outside company's server.

A network person on the outside company's end saw traffic for both the
ping and the TELNET but they didn't see any traffic when I was attempting
the connection using my JDBCR4 program.

I'm guessing that our system may be stopping the connection from going out
when using JDBC but allows it from ping and TELNET. But I have very
limited networking knowledge.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Thanks,

Rob
