Chris,
Compile-time arrays work fine in **FREE without any **END-FREE type code... (But O-specs and other fixed-form stuff does not.)
For example:
**FREE
dcl-s array char(10) dim(5) ctdata;
dcl-s x int(10);
for x = 1 to %elem(array);
dsply array(x);
endfor;
*inlr = *on;
**

Line 3
Line 4
Line 5
FWIW, I hope they do NOT document **END-FREE, and I'm disapointed in it. One of the "features" of **FREE that I liked was that it forces you to stop using the outdated fixed format techniques anywhere in your code.
People should replace O-specs with data structures, IMHO.

Does anyone know if IBM is going to add the "**end-free" to the
documentation specification for "**free"?
Currently the operation is there, it's just hidden and used by the
SQL Precompiler.
Using the "**end-free" appears to be the easiest solution to continue
using compile time arrays and "O-spec" in a **free RPGLE program.
I just don't want to have to push the stuff into a copy book, which
seems overly tedious.
