And are you sure it's defined as *DEC?
What's the whole message? Should be something like:
Data area *LIBL/FACINFO was defined in the RPG procedure to be of type
*CHAR and length 4.” The actual data area SOMELIB/FACINFO is of type *CHAR
and length 20. If a *LGL data area is expected, a data area of type *CHAR
and length 1 is also allowed.)
Finally, a DS in RPG is always character.
If the only thing in the DTAARA is a *DEC value, use a stand-a-lone field:
dcl-s reckey packed(8,0) dtaara('LCANXTID');

I've been trying for 30 minutes to get a data area defined as numeric.
The Data Area is defined as *DEC, length 8,0.
Here is my code that compiles. When I execute I get RNX0411....
"data area was defined to be of type *CHAR and length 8."
Here is my definition
/free
dcl-ds lcaNxtId dtaara;
reckey zoned(8:0);
end-ds;
/end-free
I tried zoned(8:0) on dcl-ds but that's not allowed.
The first problem is that a *DEC data area is packed-decimal in
RPG -- not zoned decimal.
Sincerely,
Dave Clark
