Probably - since 65535 means "no conversion" - it is not something from/to which a conversion can be made.

Try it - just do a CHGJOB CCSID(37) and see if it works.

I have an RPG program that accesses the IFS, using the techniques from Scott Klement's IFS ebook.

And it's failing to open the file, with errno=3490.

The path is perfectly reasonable (and looks fine in the debugger), and the mode is 16777217 (hex '1000001').

Why would I be getting that particular error?

Just out of morbid curiosity, I did a DSPJOB on my terminal session, and took option 2; it shows:

Language identifier . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : ENU
Country or region identifier . . . . . . . . . . : US
Coded character set identifier . . . . . . . . . : 65535
Default coded character set identifier . . . . . : 37

Could the 65535 CCSID be my gremlin?
