As far as I can tell, the compiler will ignore everything in columns 1-5
when the statement is not in the new free-format that allows coding to
start at column 1. So, yes, numbers, characters, display attributes, all
allowable in 1-5.
(Obviously, columns 1-2 = '**' starts a program-defined table.)
To your inquiry, I'm not sure why you're seeing those colors. When I open
an RPGLE source member with versioning in columns 1-5, they are highlighted
blue, the same color as comment lines (asterisk in column 7).
