If you have the JDBC-connection in a separate Job and communicate via

Yes, that's exactly right.

What could I do, if I want a synchronous communication?

My requirements are very easy, so I myself use asynch JDBC. If I had a
more strict requirement, I would look into both Persistent CGI and a
couple of APIs:
QzhbCgiSendState_r()
QzhbCgiRecvState_r()
