JDBCR4 How long will a database connection stay open

Hello,

I am using the JDBCR4 service program to access a MSSQL database.

I have a service program that is used to retrieve a single record from the
database which is called from interactive programs where the user needs to
retrieve additional information which is working great.

I now have a requirement to check the values for a number of records in a
batch process. So the number of individual records retrieved could be in
the thousands.

If I do not close the connection (Eg jdbc_Close(conn); ) will the
connection stay open indefinitely ?

I am guessing so but I can't find any thing that confirms that.
