The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

My question is can we find which program has left a particular
instance of file open so that we can identify and correct these
issues quickly?
One possibility would be to start journaling the physical files but
_do not omit_ the Open\Close (*OPNCLO) entries when Start Journal
Physical File (STRJRNPF); i.e. specify *NONE for the Journal Entries To
Be Omitted (OMTJRNE). The logged entry will include the program that
opened the file.
Another possibility is to collect a trace of a request known to leave
the file(s) open when not desired; the trace data logs the open of the
file.member [TRCJOB *ON and TRCJOB *OFF, or, IIRC, the STRTRC and ENDTRC
combo].
There is also a Database Open-File Exit feature that can track all
opens: [Open Database File (QIBM_QDB_OPEN) exit program is called when a
when a job is opening a database
file.](
