I think the bigger problem is the infrastructure. You need a
JDBC-ODBC bridge driver. A situation that's become complicated by
needing a /different/ driver for 32 and 64-bit versions of Office. As
with so many PC programming problems, Stack Overflow has some advice:

I seriously advise getting it to work on your desktop PC, with Java
examples before trying to implement it in RPG on IBM i.
