I have never seen this message id, nor these programs.

Does anyone have any ideas on how the spool file was deleted.

Presumably this was misdirected, and intent\action is\will-be posting to midrange-l; nothing about the post seems related to RPG programming.

But FWiW [cross-posting to midrange-l as well as setting followup to that group] those programs are the part of Operational Assistance; i.e. the /assist/ programs, related to the Assistance Level (ASTLVL) and possibly also if the Attention Program (ATNPGM) for the User Profile (USRPRF) is *ASSIST. See also GO ASSIST. Effectively, whenever the assistance-level is the lowest, i.e. *BASIC, the interface tries to be a little more informative to the user [to assist\guide them], and that guidance may include issuing messages not offered to /intermediate/ and /advanced/ users.

For example type the following on a command-line, and then review the help text for each parameter:

CHGPRF ??ATNPGM() ??ASTLVL()

" Attention program (ATNPGM) - Help

*ASSIST
The Operational Assistant ATTN key handling program, QEZMAIN, is used.

Assistance level (ASTLVL) - Help

*BASIC
The Operational Assistant user interface is used.
…"

Then with regard specifically to spooled files, review the help text for the ASTLVL() parameter of the following command invocation of the Work With Spooled Files (WRKSPLF); review the effects when using *BASIC:

WRKSPLF ??ASTLVL()
