Fair question. Probably should have explained that. I have a small file, usually under 500 records, with 12 fields and a record length of several hundred columns. I want a simple way to view/edit that file. My solution is to have a program that displays all records in a subfile, with pertinent data from the file displayed. The subfile is displayed in a specific order. When the user puts the cursor on a row and Enters, the program calls another program, with the SFLCSRRRN value as a parm. The second program processes the same file, in the same order. Therefore on the second program's first cycle, using the RRN number as the relative number in the cursor, i get the correct record. Then, the user can page through the records, up or down, viewing/editing as s/he wishes.

Its working really well so far and it appears to be fairly intuitive for users.

My understanding of "fetch relative" is that it is relative to
your current position in the cursor. Thus, I do not understand how an RRN
will work in this instance. Can you explain that? Also, what method are
you using to determine "the RRN number for the record desired"?
