My FromFormat = ABCD

then
output = %xlate(FromFormat:ToFormat:input) will be 12-3=4

Try it. I used this technique (learned from Ted Holt) to reformat

dates.

Well, I gave it a try and I can't get it to work.

dcl-c FromFormat 'ABCD';
dcl-c ToFormat 'AB-C=D';
dcl-c InputString '1239';
dcl-s Result varchar(50);

Result = 'Result is: ' + %xlate(FromFormat: ToFormat: InputString);

DSPLY Result '*EXT';

*inlr = *on;
return;
