Consider a data structure with the subfields being the array, and then overlaying the array with the screen fields?
Something like this:
d ds
d Array dim(nn)
d SCRN1 overlay(Array)
d SCRN2 overlay(Array: *next)
...
d SCRNnn overlay(Array: *next)

There is a bit more to it than that, but you get the idea.

I do this in a 3-up label print program.

In new development, I'm shifting away from program-described to externally-described printer files. However, whereas in a program I can specify FIELD(1), FIELD(2), etc., in the O-specs, I can't use the same type of field notation in DDS (or at least I'm getting whacked by the syntax checker when I try it).

I was wondering how others approach this issue.
