RPG typically closes the files on exit, but you can alter that
behaviour with USROPN and RETURN.
Just a clarification about USROPN ... USROPN only affects how files are
_opened_. It has no effect on when files are _closed_.
- Global files in a cycle-main module get implicitly closed when the
main procedure returns abnormally or with LR on
- Local files without the STATIC keyword in a procedure get implicitly
closed when the procedure ends
- No other files are implicitly closed. They only get closed by the
CLOSE opcode or by the activation group ending.
So if you always want a file to be open, there's no real need to code
USROPN.
