I have not used Scott's YAJL wrappers. But the example in the presentation
seems fairly clear:

docNode = yajl_stmf_load_tree( '/tmp/example.json' : errMsg );

succNode = yajl_object_find( docNode : 'success' );
if yajl_is_true( succNode ); // success!
else; // failure endif;
