Thanks for the post and the explanation. They agree with my recollections
of the multiple work-arounds we had to do when processing data that had its
origin on other (non-IBM i) systems (also, when exporting data to those
systems).
I agree with you with the avoiding of variant characters as part of the
field name, although I have to confess that, many years ago, I went thru a
"phase" of using the "at" sign (@) on some work fields, as that way they
appeared at the beginning of the compiler and/or dump listings... :-)
