When I do a qry of the file selecting that field containing -1249 it brings up 2 records.
Doing a DSPPFM on the file, the first record contains the 40012D (the 40 look obviously wrong), the second record contains 01249D.
That "bad" record was created a little over 3 years ago. That field is part of the key.

I created a little pgm and put them in debug to read those 2 records.
Both records contained -1249 in the field.

I created this with SQL which will NOT get decimal data errors.
CREATE TABLE QTEMP.JERRY (MYDEC DEC (5 , 0)) INSERT INTO QTEMP.JERRY VALUES(0-40012)

*..
402
01D

I would make double dog sure that you are looking at the exact origin of the error.

What I don't get is where you say both sets of data are the same -1249.

Hi All,

I have a pgm that takes any IBMi file and will create an excel. Been
working for a long time.

One of the controllers was using it and got a decimal data error.
I ran it in debug and found the following.

The field is Packed 5,0. Looks bad to me. The number is -1249.
[cid:image001.png@01D07CD6.904EBFF0]

When I look at the record in qry it displays correctly. When I use WRKDBF
is displays correctly.
When I change it via WRKDBF it puts it in like that.

There is another record in the same file that has a -1249. Looks correct.

What the he.........ck?

The system understands what it is. My pgm that takes the raw line, parses
it and makes it a number does not like it.
