IBM has the power to make this experiment happen.
They could even do it without losing any money (by increasing the
price for the compilers to compensate).

Hmmm, the old practice of having revenue from one product subsidize the
development, marketing, and adoption of another. Not good for IBM, nor the
customer, IMHO.

How about the tried and true practice of having products stand or fall on
their own merits, without subsidies?

Hate to admit this on this list, but I still prefer ADTS. With the vast
majority of our source members being in the 200-300 line range, SEU would
be adequate, except that its language support was "stabilized".

I will move to RDI at some point, mostly in order to adopt new RPG language
features. But part of me dislikes bloated, over-engineered, PC-based IDEs.
Dreamweaver, for maintaining HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code would be an
exception.

I would prefer a thin, browser based IDE for IBM i application development.

Nathan.
