I do this all the time. Here is an example from some code we're currently
running:

case when :Sbm.Mode<>' ' then month(curdate()-1 month)
else month(curdate()) end

Subject: Using host variable in embedded sql
Sent by: "RPG400-L" <rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

All,
Is there a way to use a host variable in a CASE statement as the field to
be tested?
ie: CASE :my_field WHEN .... END

Would that work?
