Understood. I was just trying to get a feel from several smaller shops what
it would be worth to them if their company had a budget to buy something. I
know part of the answer depends on the functionality but I honestly don't
know if I am looking at something worth $500 or $50K. And yes, I expect it
to be somewhere in between, I'm just not sure where.

John
In my shop it would be difficult to cost-justify any expense for that type
of tool. Again, I'm just one guy - and in a JD Edwards shop to boot, so my
custom code is minimal. When I make a modification to a JDE program, I use
the JDE source management tools.
Plus, I have access to a freeware CMS tool that some colleagues of mine have
developed and improved through the years, should I really want to implement
it.

Since Bob brought up the idea...
I want to start by saying that I do not have such a tool so I am not trying
to sell anyone anything. I am just looking for information from anyone that
feels like throwing in their two cents.
A few years back I was working on developing a source control / migration
tool to market to smaller shops and everyone told me it wasn't worth it so I
quit. They said the big shops want something big and well known like Aldon
or Turnover and there aren't enough small shops left to make it worth my
time.
If you were to buy a "poor man's version" of such a tool (not a lot of bells
and whistles), what would you be willing to pay for it? I am just trying to
figure out if I can cost justify my time to finish it.
