Yes Vern - if the subproc (or called program for that matter) changes the
cursor location that will be reflected in any subsequent access when
returning to the caller. The record?s fields content will not have been
changed unless you contrived to have that happen (e.g. by passing the I/O
DS) but the cursor has moved.

Rather than using the OVRDBF command, look into using the ILE RPG IV
FILE-level keywords EXTFILE and EXTMBR -- These allow you to specify
a
field to contain the qualified file name and a field to contain the
member name to use at "runtime" ... (at file OPEN time).

This way, you can have the local copy of the FILE in the procedure
working with the same member, or a different member ...
