Actually, it does (and I was thinking of something very much like that, after reading Rory's suggestion). And if the Unix-type I/O calls (which are what I usually use for accessing the IFS) treat a user space as a stream file (and can create one in QTEMP -- I've already seen that EDTF can create a stream file in QTEMP), then I may have my answer.
