XML-SAX and ampersand -- RPG400-L

I'm having an issue parsing this XML:
<NAME>EXF-01 & 02</NAME>

The value comes in as:
EXF-01 & 02

The length is only 7, so I'm getting 'EXF-01 '.

Any suggestions on this? Do I have to ignore the length provided and parse it manually?
