When you say " pass the data as a parameter to another program ", what exactly does that mean?

What data does the parm have in it? The name of the file? The XML itself?

I have used the XML Toolkit many times to generate XML files stored in the IFS. I now have to generate an XML file and pass the data as a parameter to another program. Does anyone know how this can be done? I thought it would be an easy task (maybe it is) but I have been struggling now for several days
