Consensus seems to be just to talk it out. I'm fine with that.

Before the new freeform came out, I could say that all of our RPG programs were freeform. Now post-new-syntax all of our RPG programs are partially freeform.

In regard to "RPG Free" not being a phrase, it's on the IBM_RPG wiki page as a "dialect" (actually as RPG/FREE). However when we posted our ad for a programmer, I actually specified requiring "Free-form ILE RPG."

Thanks for the feedback,

I don't know that it matters...

I don't see that big a difference between fixed and freeform D-specs...

Somebody comfortable with "free form" should be able to move to the fully free pretty easy.

Personally, I differentiate on
- RPG III
- RPG III+ (RPG III code run through CVTRPGSRC, no EVALS or long names
ect.)
- RPG IV (no service programs and likely no procedures, CRTBNDRPG
DFTACTGRP(*YES))
- ILE RPG

I'd ask about freeform, but I suspect anybody doing ILE RPG is using freeform.

Since we've had many years of RPG/Free meaning freeform C-specs, how
do you refer to the new freeform? I ask because ever since the new
freeform came out, I've found that I've had to differentiate between
RPG Free and what I've poorly dubbed "fully freeform RPG."

I'm sure there will come a time when there is no need to
differentiate, but at this time if an RPG programmer says they know
RPG Free, until told otherwise I assume they do not know the new freeform syntax.

Thoughts?
