I haven't tried this recently, but I believe you can use the CSRLOC
keyword to position the cursor anywhere on the screen - it doesn't have
to be on an input-capable field (I believe):
A 32 CSRLOC(WSROW WSLIN)
A WSROW 3S 0H
A WSLIN 3S 0H

Thank you, seems more directly related to my
need than RTNCSRLOC
I still need to move cursor to subfile on first
display and way to identify the current rec to
the user - may need to add that update field
I'm trying to avoid . . .

I think this keyword is what you need:
SFLCSRRRN (Subfile Cursor Relative Record Number) keyword for display
files Use this record-level keyword on the subfile control record format
to return the relative record number of the record on which the cursor
is located within a subfile. If the subfile records occupy more than one
line, use this keyword in conjunction with the SFLMODE keyword to
determine the location of the cursor.

I am looking for a way a user can select a subfile record that does not
require an update column/field.
The applications initial subfile shows summary delivery route data and I
want the user to use up and down keys to "select" a particular route for
which detail will be shown on a second subfile.
In other words, I want the initial subfile to act like a "Menu Bar"
