I've only had cause to write one XMK translation program, but there I
found that I had to change the CCSID of the file in the IFS I was
parsing to 1208. (CHGATR OBJ(&PATH) ATR(*CCSID) VALUE(1208) )

I doubt that the issue is related to the CCSID, I can run Scott's
example
without any problems and that doc is also set to UTF-8

The ccsid can be controlled at the system level in a system value
(QCCSID), or at the user level in the profile definition.

IBM ships with a CCSID value = 65535.

If the user profile that is executing the parse is different than
this,
un-intended results may occur. The CCSID value can be inherited from
group profiles, so check those too.

I've run into SQL where the CCSID value was key to being able to even
use
some particular SQL XML-serialization actions. Related? I don't know
for
sure. We are in the process of changing the group profiles for
particular
users to CCSID = 37 and leaving the shipped system value as is. This
is
mostly due to corporate wariness. Others on this forum have noted no
ill
effects changing it mid-day. I'm not brave enough to go that route.

The CCSID for the doc says UTF-8, I'm assuming that the program is the
same, but if you tell me how to check I'll be happy to let you know
LOL

Dutch,

I found an old post by Mr. Klement (back in 2007) that seemed to
question the CCSID values. Unfortunately, the thread never resolved.

Does the CCSID value for your xml document match that that is in use
by the program at the time the parsing takes place?

The very first line of the doc starts out:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

So I'm not thinking that either :)

Its gonna turn out to be something stupid... supposedly its an error
that can be ignored, but your guess is as good as mine on how to do
that.

I see on Google a reference to this error when the xml declaration
(e.g.
<?xml version="1.0" ?> ) does not start in the first byte of the
document. Could this be your issue?

I don't believe so, actually I'm only attempting to extract the
first
section of the document right now and there is no field like that.

Error code 12 is saying I have a mixed case, but I'm telling it in
the options to ignore any case, so I've been beating my head against
the glass
:)

This is a complete WAG, but is it possible that you have a field
called
'xml' and that is a reserved word?

I am getting a parser error 12:

"A processing instruction target name was 'xml' in lowercase,
uppercase
or
mixed case."

I have double checked all the subfields to ensure they match the
tags but for the life of me I have no idea now what this is
about...

Is there something in particular I should be looking for?
