Thanks Barbara,

_I_ don't control the java, but folks in another division of the company in
another city do.

This is a distributable package to our customers and there is no telling
what library the program could be in at the client site. It could be in
multiple locations - production and test.

I'm late to the party here and am tasked with writing only the RPG, but i'm
trying to influence how we do this so that it's done the right way. Maybe
my was isn't right, but I'm not sure the way they're doing it is right
either. They want me to write a program that receives a program name and
environment and passes back the library it's found in. To me that seems
like a hammer in search of a nail.

My idea was to create a command that can be run at each site after
installation or modification to set the library list to the specified
environment, look for the programs in the liblist and generate the PCML so
the java knows where to look.

I'm open to other suggestions.

The PCML generated at compile time might have this:

<program name="WS119" path="/QSYS.LIB/MYLIB.LIB/WS119.PGM">

but when installed on the client box, the program really could be in
THEIRLIB or ANOTHERLIB.

If you control the Java, you don't need to change the PCML. You can
change the path within Java using the setPath() method of
ProgramCallDocument.

This example from the RPG programmer's guide shows setting the path for
a service program, but it also works for a program.
