Just curious. If this is a numeric field printing on a report, why just use
an edit code on the report to suppress the leading zeros?

and the compiler likes:

wField = %trim(%editc(nField: 'N'));

(I just happen to prefer the left-side minus sign.)

All,
I have a numeric field 0070000123 that I need to remove the leading
