This is a personal preference, but it is worth consideration, in my
opinion.
Have you considered writing your output as HTML? Hitting the Print icon
from a web page is an awfully easy way to deliver attractive reports to
the user's desktop.
Beyond that, this has two huge advantages in my opinion. First, there
is so much more versatility, including colors, tables with borders,
images, backgrounds, a wide variety of fonts, and the report is easily
published on your intranet thereby saving paper and archiving costs.
Secondly, finding people who can extend HTML is so much easier than
finding people who can write overlays.
Just a thought.
