I have an RPGLE program that constructs an HTML string and sends it (through a Windows-based web server) to the browser. Is there a way to HTML encode parts of the HTML in the RPG program? For example, if I have a string like "15°", is there a way to
translate it to "15°"?
An alternative is to somehow do this on the web server on the way to the browser, but obviously I _don't_ want to translate all the actual HTML tags, so it might get a little ugly. Doing it in the RPG program (if possible) seems like the best way to go,
since the program can know exactly which parts need to be encoded and which ones don't.
I know I could write a function that's one long Select statement, but I'm wondering if there's an easier (more elegant) way -- something along the lines of:
Dim ch As String
phrase$=""
For a=1 To Len(oldphrase)
ch=Mid$(oldphrase,a,1)
If Uni(ch)=32 Or Uni(ch)>47 And Uni(ch)<58 Or _ '0-9
Uni(ch)>64 And Uni(ch)<91 Or _ 'A-Z
Uni(ch)>96 And Uni(ch)<123 Then 'a-z
phrase$=phrase$ & ch
Else
phrase$=phrase$ & "&#" & Uni(ch) & ";"
End If
Next
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you,
