It is a very early version of the langauge. I don't believe there was ever anything actually called RPG I but there was indeed a version prior to RPG II and that would be it.

To my knowledge there are no active machines using it. Even on mainframes the RPG in use is an early version of RPG II.

Did someone ask you perhaps to learn RPG IV and the "V" got lost?
