No joke. Not that reducing runtime was the motivation, but we went from a
720 in '04 or '05 to a 520 (Power 5). Cut our nightly close (dedicated
process) from 1.25 hours to about 12 minutes. We were planning to order a
Power 7 when the owner decided to just retire and closed the doors.
Probably would have cut it to < 5 minutes.
On a more serious note, it always (always!) amazes me that the people who
bitch about how slow the 7+ year old AS/400 (there word, Trevor, not mine -
though I tried) is always (always!) seem to think it reasonable to upgrade
their PC every year to the latest, greatest, and fastest so they can access
their bank account or YouTube better. Never mind that the system running
business critical applications is drowning! But, hey, that's just me; my
best friend says I have a bad attitude (and she actually likes me - go
figure).
