When coding a new call to an API, I think it's best to start out your
testing with the error code bytes-provided set to 0 (you can even do
that in the debugger).
That way, any errors in the API cause your program to fail, and the
error messages to go to the joblog where it's easier to see the
replacement values of the messages.
Once you have the basic call working, you can put the bytes-provided
back to the non-zero value.
