For the archive:
Multiply the 4-digit times by 100 to make them a 6-digit time, the use %time() to convert to a time field. %diff is then able to determine the difference.

I neglected to provide the appropriate details in my recent request.
I have two four digit time fields. They are not part of a date nor are they date dependent.
If necessary, I could cobble up timestamp fields for comparison.
