Well, the speed difference Scott is talking about (if I'm reading
correctly) applies to XSSF (for .xlsx files), not HSSF (which handles
.xls files). The big speed improvement sounds like it's due mainly to
getting rid of the Java calls.

People who specifically need .xls files won't be able to take
advantage of Scott's new service program (but of course can still use
HSSF).
